Collecting, cleaning, displaying, researching, and appreciating TRIVETS and related go-withs!
Renninger’s in Mt. Dora, Florida holds three Extravaganzas a year: January, February and November. I wasn’t able to make the January show, but I did return in February 2010. And what a great show it was! Although the number of dealers seemed down from November, I thought the quality and variety of the merchandise in the booths was better.
My goal this time was to add to my antique wireware collection. And I wasn’t disappointed! I found the booth of a Slovak-American dealer who had brought some wonderful antique folk art, including wireware, from his last trip to the Czech Republic. I purchased the two trivets pictured here; he had several more, but they were similar in design to others in my collection so I passed on them. He also had some gorgeous antique wire plate holders, complete with plates- but since he took cash only, I had to stay within my budget.
I really enjoy attending these shows. It’s a great feeling to be surrounded by others who love and appreciate antiques and collectibles. Add in the enticing smells wafting from the trailers of the food vendors and a bit of spending money in my pocket … it was enough to make me feel like a kid at a carnival!
