Collecting, cleaning, displaying, researching, and appreciating TRIVETS and related go-withs!
This lovely cast iron trivet was recently won in the James Ellwood Auction.
Included in a lot of seven, I didn’t give it a much thought because it was a familiar design and something I probably wouldn’t need for my collection. (FYI – no trivet reverse views were provided in this auction.)
However, once it was received and examined, I was pleasantly surprised! It’s similar in size and design to another documented on p. 182 of Trivets & Stands (rated Rare). But my trivet has two important differences: (1) there is no hole in the handle and (2) it’s signed on the reverse!
Cast iron, 9 7/8″ x 4 1/2″ with three splayed ornamental cleats.
Heavy at 1 pound 9.3 ounces.
1/4″ top rail around the entire platform.
Pronounced gate mark at one upper edge.
U. WILLIAMS in raised lettering on the handle reverse.

After a gentle cleaning and seasoning, this trivet will be placed on display.
