A lovely trivet with scalloped edging

This lovely trivet, featuring an unusual and intricate design, was recently obtained from the Ellwood collection. I feel fortunate to be its next caretaker. The details:

● Cast iron, 9″ x 4 7/8″ with three 1 3/8″ legs.

● Decorative, scalloped edging.

● Ornamental, scroll-style handle.

● Pronounced, rough gate mark along the outside of the handle.

I haven’t found this trivet documented in any published reference, including A Collectors Guide To Trivets & Stands. That’s not unusual, considering that the book James Ellwood co-authored was published in 1990. Jim continued to collect over the subsequent 30+ years, adding many new examples to his collection.  A Tribute To James Ellwood.

Have you ever seen this design or have one in your collection? If so, please Comment below.
