Collecting, cleaning, displaying, researching, and appreciating TRIVETS and related go-withs!
From the 1950s through 1980s Wilton Products of Reading, Pennsylvania produced a line of full-sized and miniature trivets. But are you aware they also sold decorative accessories?
These six collectibles … two Amish male and female spring tension desk clips, a 9″ trivet, a mini trivet with thermometer, an egg timer, and a match holder … are only a few examples. Each is signed WILTON on the reverse.
All were discovered on eBay and purchased in mint condition; some came in the original box. They were displayed in my kitchen; notice the 22 gauge copper wire used to hang them for wall display.
This 5.25″ long WILTON mini trivet features a small thermometer.
Do you have any antique or vintage items containing Mercury? If you’ve ever considering selling and then shipping one of them, here’s a warning from the USPS:
NO, you can’t mail metallic mercury. Metallic mercury, which is a liquid at room temperature, and devices containing metallic mercury are always prohibited in the mail stream. This includes antique items such as mercury thermometers, mercury barometers, mercury blood pressure monitors and similar devices.
Note the WILTON signature on the handle reverse.
One of my readers just informed me that this thermometer doesn’t contain mercury … it holds alcohol with a red dye! Here’s some documentation that explains the difference.
