Collecting, cleaning, displaying, researching, and appreciating TRIVETS and related go-withs!
This interesting antique trivet was in my collection for years before being sold this weekend to another collector.
The 8 1/2″ square brass trivet frame is unpolished with original patina; I never attempted to remove the tile from the frame for cleaning. Note the ornamental feet. The 6″ square Minton tile is in excellent condition with only minimal crazing. On the reverse are the raised letters:
MINTON HOLLINS & CO
PATENT TILE WORKS
STOKE ON KENT
EW B
Of special interest is the black inked Rd Diamond on the reverse. The IV in the top circle classifies the material as ceramics. Although the diamond is not completely visible, it’s possible to identify it as second series (1868-1883) because of the letter V in the right corner, signifying 1876. I’ve rotated the photo below; click twice to zoom into the Rd Diamond.
